High-Performance Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging
This week’s Spotlight is on Ismayil Guracar of Siemens Medical Solutions USA. Ismayil and his colleagues have applied CUDA to the high-data-rate signal processing pipeline of the ACUSON SC2000(tm) ultrasound imaging system.

HIV Research Breakthrough
Researchers at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), armed with Tesla GPU accelerators, achieved a breakthrough in the battle to fight the spread of HIV. A paper in Nature details how UIUC, with University of Pittsburgh, determined the chemical structure of the HIV capsid, a protein shell that protects the genetic material of the virus.

CUDA 5.5 RC Available
The CUDA 5.5 Release Candidate is now available to registered developers. Features include multi-process MPI debugging & profiling; single GPU debugging for Linux; and step-by-step guided performance analysis.

Prototyping Algorithms and Testing CUDA Kernels in MATLAB
This article describes how MATLAB supports CUDA kernel development by providing a language and development environment for quickly evaluating kernels, analyzing and visualizing kernel results, and writing test harnesses to validate kernel results. The authors use an image white balancing example to demonstrate this workflow.
