IMPROVING WORKFLOWS
GTC is expanding this year to include more sessions on how GPUs are being used to improve workflows in media and entertainment. These sessions include:
  • High frame rate/stereo/4K production workflows and technologies
  • On-set pre-visualization and dailies
  • Visual FX, including image processing, physics-based effects and GPU rendering
  • Live broadcast graphics and augmented reality
INDUSTRY LUMINARIES PRESENTING AT GTC 2013
Douglas Trumbull Douglas Trumbull, Director, special effects pioneer, inventor, and Academy Award winner, will share insights on the future of high-resolution, high frame rate filmmaking.
 
Gerhard Lang Gerhard Lang, Chief Engineering Officer, vizrt, will review how GPUs changed the look of broadcast graphics and the role they will play as content delivery shifts from traditional distribution to IP-based delivery.
 
Joachim Zell Joachim Zell, VP, Imaging Science, EFILM, will describe his custom on-set and DI workflows, which ensure calibrated images for features including Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Avengers, What to Expect When You're Expecting, The Help, and Skyfall.
 
Dirk Van Gelder Dirk Van Gelder, an engineering lead at Pixar will talk about OpenSubdiv, a new open source library for drawing subdivision surfaces with GPU acceleration that Pixar uses internally for animated feature film production.
 
Daniel Simon Daniel Simon, Vehicle Designer. Clients like Formula 1, Lotus, Warner Brothers, Universal, Disney or Bugatti enjoyed his automotive concept visions. An entertaining inside look into the creative process of Simon's spectacular 3D work from Cosmic Motors to Hollywood.
 
Tim Heidmann Tim Heidmann, Chief Instigator, Serious Intent, will describe his work on AC Liveline, an augmented reality graphics system designed for the Americas Cup. This advanced solution overlays graphics on live helicopter video to label boats, show course boundaries, highlight turning marks, measure leads, and show current and wind.
 
Jules Urbach Jules Urbach, Founder and CEO, OTOY Inc., will share his vision of a production pipeline that delivers real-time photorealistic graphics, from performance capture to GPU-based rendering for film and interactive rendering for games.
 
Sharif Elcott Sharif Elcott, Weta Digital R&D, will describe how GPU-based interactive preview reduces artist iteration times and improves Weta Digital's pipeline efficiency on productions such as The Hobbit and The Adventures of Tintin.
