FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
SANTA CLARA, CA—JULY 6, 2004—NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions, today announced the NVIDIA® Gelato™ film renderer received a coveted Millimeter magazine “NAB Pick Hit 2004” award. Selected for innovation and importance to the motion picture, television production, and post-production industries, Gelato was one of only 15 products to be named a “Pick Hit” from among the offerings of nearly 1,400 exhibiting companies at the annual 2004 National Association of Broadcaster’s (NAB) conference.
“The NVIDIA Gelato rendering software earned an NAB Pick Hit 2004 for being the first commercially available application for feature film production to bring interactivity to rendering,” said Cynthia Wisehart, editorial director at Millimeter.
“The Gelato design team is well-known and highly respected throughout the visual FX industry, and that vast practical knowledge has been poured into this product,” adds Pick Hit Judge, S.D. Katz. “This no-compromise renderer will be taken very seriously within the visual FX industry.”
Unveiled at NAB, Gelato is a final-frame film renderer accelerated by industry-standard graphics hardware and armed with the full feature set required by film and TV production professionals. Gelato is poised to revolutionize digital film production with speed, precision, and productivity increases never before seen in offline film-quality rendering. Using the world’s most advanced film shading language and NVIDIA Quadro® professional graphics hardware, Gelato produces the highest-quality digital effects and animations.
“With so many outstanding products showcased at this year’s NAB, we’re honored to be among the precious few to receive an NAB Pick Hit,” said Beth Loughney, general manager of the Digital Film Group at NVIDIA. “Gelato’s warm reception at NAB and throughout the industry is further validation that we are delivering an important solution to a critical problem. We’ve designed Gelato with flexibility and scalability in mind too, so we’re confident it will integrate seamlessly into existing production environments and scale with improvements made to those environments over time.”
Gelato is now available for purchase at http://film.nvidia.com in versions running Red Hat Linux 7.2, 7.3, 9.0, and SUSE. Beta testing has commenced on a version for Microsoft® Windows® XP and on a Maya® plugin for exporting to Gelato. Beta testing is also expected to begin soon for a 64-bit Linux version of Gelato. Gelato and the other Millimeter NAB Pick Hit products can be found in the magazine’s June issue.
