PC EXPO, NEW YORK — June 28, 2000 — NVIDIA® Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) today introduced the GeForce2 MX™, the first GPU designed specifically for the volume PC market. NVIDIA's newest GPU includes two new powerful features, Digital Vibrance Control™ and the TwinView™ display architecture. GeForce2 MX also includes advanced visual features, such as hardware transform and lighting and per-pixel shading, and provides GeForce-level performance, all at mainstream prices. This rich feature set, combined with its low cost, truly makes GeForce2 MX a GPU for the masses.

Intel® Corporation recently featured the GeForce2 MX on its mainstream Intel 815 chipset press tour as its AGP 4X with Fast Writes GPU of choice.

In addition to blazingly fast 2D and 3D graphics, GeForce2 MX provides unparalleled display flexibility with its new TwinView display architecture. Through TwinView, GeForce2 MX supports a dizzying array of multidisplay configurations. Various combinations of multiple monitors, flat panels, and TVs can be connected to a single GeForce2 MX GPU. TwinView even supports two independent digital flat panels, an industry first, providing relief for severely constrained desktop environments.
GeForce2 MX incorporates NVIDIA's new Digital Vibrance Control (DVC) technology. DVC makes all visuals more crisp, colorful, and vibrant. In most office environments, fluorescent lighting makes visuals washed out and muted. With DVC, 2D and 3D graphics, images, and video are much brighter and cleaner thereby reducing eyestrain and improving the viewing experience.
For greater manageability and stability, the GeForce2 MX is based on NVIDIA's unified driver architecture (UDA). Through UDA, GeForce2 MX has a backward and forward binary driver that is compatible with past, present, and future NVIDIA GPUs, as well as top-to-bottom compatible with all currently manufactured versions of NVIDIA's graphics processors. This greatly simplifies system administration. For example, you could remove an NVIDIA TNT2 from a system and replace it with a GeForce2 MX without changing the graphics software driver. Only NVIDIA offers this level of compatibility.
The GeForce2 MX meets all the requirements of the Microsoft® PC 98, PC 99, and DirectX® initiatives. In addition to DirectX support, this high-performance GPU provides full support for OpenGL® for Windows® 2000, 98, 95, Windows NT®, Linux™, and other operating systems. Delivering the industry's fastest Direct3D® acceleration, leadership VGA, DirectDraw® and video performance, GeForce2 MX powers a growing range of applications, including the most complex 2D applications, the hottest 3D games, and full-screen DVD/HDTV playback.
Affordable and Powerful Consumer GPU
The GeForce2 MX provides the stunning graphics experience consumers have come to expect from NVIDIA. Its transform and lighting engines provide over 20 million sustained triangles per second -- 33% faster than the GeForce 256™. Its rendering subsystem provides 700 million texels per second, more than three times the texture processing power of any competitive consumer graphics processor. The GeForce2 MX renders razor-sharp, crystal-clear 2D graphics, even at taxing resolutions as high as 2048 x 1536, in 32-bit color.
TwinView enables exciting display alternatives. For example, a user could configure her PC to surf the web on her primary monitor while simultaneously watching a DVD movie on a television screen.
The GeForce2 MX includes the NVIDIA Shading Rasterizer (NSR), a radical new technology that enables advanced per-pixel shading capabilities. This breakthrough technology, introduced with the GeForce2 GTS™, simultaneously processes up to seven pixel operations in a single pass.
The GeForce2 MX's integrated High-Definition Video Processor (HDVP) supports a wide range of Advanced Television Standards Committee (ATSC) formats, including 720p at 60 frames per second. When combined with a high-performance, high-level software MPEG-2 decoder and digital TV receiver, GeForce2 MX delivers a cost-effective, high-quality HDTV solution.
