New RIVA TNT2 First to Deliver Best Performnace and Visual Quality
SANTA CLARA, CA - MARCH 15, 1999-- For the fourth consecutive season, NVIDIA(TM) Corporation (NASDAQ : NVDA) announced today the fastest 3D graphics processor for the mainstream market, the RIVA TNT2(TM). This new offering from NVIDIA sets a new standard for performance and quality by combining best-of-class 3D and 2D performance with 32-bit true color rendering, 32-bit Z-buffer and a 32MB frame buffer. The TwiN Texel Architecture, combined with per-pixel mip-mapping precision, offers an unprecedented fill rate of up-to 350 million pixels-per-second, which is twice that of the nearest competitor. The RIVA TNT2 also has the ability to render up to 10 million triangles per second which allows developers to write standards based applications with stunning visual effects.
"NVIDIA has redefined performance and quality standards for all desktop PCs," said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of NVIDIA. "With our full featured family of performance 3D graphics processors, we are uniquely positioned to dominate the entire range from the basic PC to the performance PC."
NVIDIA is the only graphics processor vendor to leverage benefits of the .25 micron process to its fullest, giving them a graphics accelerator that exceeds even Intel's Pentium III processor in terms of gate complexity. Combining this new performance level with the superior visual fidelity from the 32-bit rendering, the special effects made possible by the 32-bit Z-buffer and a 32MB frame buffer, delivers the ultimate 3D experience to the end-user who demands the best quality graphics for entertainment, education, business and e-commerce applications.
"NVIDIA has shown continued growth in market share and an ability to hit the windows needed by the OEMs," said Dr. Jon Peddie, president Jon Peddie Associates (Tiburon, CA) a market research firm that tracks digital media technologies. "Our research shows the market for 3D controllers grew to over 88 million units in 1998 and NVIDIA's growth rate exceed the market's."
Customers developing RIVA TNT2-based graphics cards include: ASUS, Canopus, Diamond Multimedia, ELSA, Guillemot, Hercules and Leadtek, with more add-in-card and Tier one OEM announcements to come.
About the RIVA TNT2
