NAMPA, ID– APRIL 27, 1999 – Micron Electronics Inc. (Nasdaq: MUEI) and NVIDIA™ Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) announced today that their work together will soon result in Micron standardizing on NVIDIA TNT2™ graphics processors in all Micron™ Millennia® desktop systems. Micron currently offers the NVIDIA RIVA TNT™ 3D graphics processor as a standard with its Millennia systems. Later this year, Micron plans to offer the 16 MB NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 graphics processor as the standard graphics technology for the Millennia computers and the 32 MB NVIDIA TNT2 graphics processor as an upgrade option. Diamond Multimedia Systems (Nasdaq: DIMD) will produce the graphics accelerators that incorporate the RIVA TNT2 processors through their Viper V770 16 MB and 32 MB solutions.
"By standardizing on the NVIDIA graphics technology in our flagship Micron Millennia desktops systems, we are able to offer the industry's most robust graphics performance to our Millennia customers," said Jeff Moeser, Micron's vice president of desktop products. "In addition, we'll be able to standardize on graphics driver software across the line, which makes system maintenance easier for our customers."
"Choosing the RIVA TNT2 exemplifies Micron's commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology to the PC market," said Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO and president at NVIDIA. "The RIVA TNT2 has clearly positioned itself as the best 3D processor in the PC industry, and will most certainly give Micron a winning edge in a highly competitive market."
Once available in the Micron Millennia systems, the new RIVA TNT2 3D graphics processor will provide Micron's Millennia customers with best-in-class 3D and 2D performance with 32-bit true color rendering, 32-bit Z-buffer and up to a 32MB frame buffer. The RIVA TNT2 also has the ability to render up to 10 million triangles per second, which allows developers to write standards-based applications with stunning visual effects.
The Micron Millennia desktop PCs are powered by Intel's latest processors and Microsoft Windows 98. Internet ready right out of the box, Micron Millennia systems deliver the industry's highest levels of performance for today's demanding computing needs, along with plenty of head room for the next generation of technologies. Micron's Millennia customers also benefit from Micron's rich portfolio of services, including a free one-year enrollment in Micron University, an online training resource that can help customers make the most out of their computer investment. In addition, Micron offers one year of unlimited Internet access via EarthLink, with the lease or purchase of select Micron Millennia desktop personal computers. For additional ease of use on the Internet, Micron Millennia systems feature a desktop Yahoo! icon connecting users to Yahoo! Plus, the Micron Millennia PCs are bundled with a standard default Internet browser that, when activated, connects users to the co-branded Micron My Yahoo! start page. This functionality enables users to immediately personalize their Web experience.
Other Micron services that reduce the cost of computer ownership include web-based purchasing and the MPower program, which includes options for equipment trade-ups as well as leasing and other flexible financing programs.
