FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SANTA CLARA, CA—JUNE 2, 2003—NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions, today announced that Northeast Utilities, New England’s largest energy provider, has realized record-breaking cost and time savings for qualifying and deploying NVIDIA nForce™-based PCs in their corporate IT infrastructure. Northeast Utilities’ accomplished their in-house hardware evaluation process in a remarkably short time, transitioning from the first-generation NVIDIA nForce-based Compaq d315 Business PC to the new NVIDIA nForce2-based HP Business Desktop d325, which was announced earlier today. “Platform stability has become a requirement of the corporate PC marketplace, and PC OEMs are looking to core-logic chipset suppliers to enable that stability. Thus, any chipset vendor who can enable such a stable platform that is less costly to purchase, deploy, and maintain, will have a major edge over the competition,” said Shane Rau, PC semiconductor analyst at IDC. “NVIDIA’s core-logic solutions provide platform stability thru their unified driver architecture, and our research indicates that NVIDIA’s unit share of the PC core-logic chipset segment supporting AMD desktop processors has grown since the end of last year.”

Northeast Utilities credits the successful transition to the NVIDIA® Unified Driver Architecture (UDA), NVIDIA’s “one driver for all platforms” design philosophy. NVIDIA UDA, which is an integral part of the design of the NVIDIA nForce, NVIDIA nForce2, and NVIDIA nForce3 Professional platform processors, greatly simplifies IT deployment and enhances low-cost product life cycle management—regardless of platform or operating system used. In this customer’s case, Northeast Utilities’ IT team was able to deploy the newer NVIDIA nForce2-based d325 Business PCs from HP, using the same system image as the one for the previous nForce-based platform. Or, as Northeast Utilities’ system engineer Matt Boyajian explains, “having one image for multiple machines significantly shortens our initial qualification cycle, and reduces overall costs for maintenance and compatibility evaluation over the four years we dedicate to supporting each platform.”

John Ciullo, another systems engineer on the Northeast Utilities’ team, added, “With the large number of desktops that we support, the simplified image development and testing procedures make a big difference. The entire Compaq product line has been a big win for us. We are also very happy with the NVIDIA driver support—drivers are updated religiously, with problems fixed before we discover them in many cases. This stability, combined with consistent hardware, makes our jobs much easier. NVIDIA never changes the chipsets on us—other vendors are changing functionality every few months, forcing us to modify desktops and keep up with complicated compatibility situations. This just doesn’t happen with NVIDIA. The hardware is stable and advancements are implemented to be transparent to users and applications.”

Designed to provide a scaleable, high performing foundation for all of today’s business, consumer, and enthusiast PCs, NVIDIA nForce2 platform processors offer myriad cost-effective, performance-enhancing features—including award-winning GeForce™4 MX graphics and new networking, audio, and multimedia processing capabilities. NVIDIA’s GeForce4 MX GPU and NVIDIA nView™ multi-display technology, are a couple of the key attributes of the NVIDIA nForce2 platform that provide businesses with a solid hardware foundation that has been tested and qualified for a variety of corporate applications including video conferencing, 3D presentations and digital video manipulation.
