MediaQ Platform Controller Selected for Panasonic Toughbook Ruggedized PDA

MQ-1132 Provides High-Resolution Color Graphics, Intelligent Peripheral Integration for Windows® CE-Based PDA

SANTA CLARA, Calif., November 12, 2001 -- MediaQ, Inc. today announced that Panasonic® Computer Solutions Company has selected the MQ-1132TM Platform Controller chip for use in a new generation of ruggedized Toughbook® small form factor mobile handheld products. These devices extend traditional PDA applications to include wireless access and advanced multimedia applications for users in enterprise and vertical markets such as field service automation, public service agencies, and government.

The Toughbook 01 is a compact, yet durable and expandable hardware solution, compliant with MIL-STD-810F for drop shock and water resistance. It offers a brilliant 240 x 320 TFT active-matrix 3.5" color LCD with touch-screen. The front light screen is also daylight-readable. The new PDA utilizes the Intel® StrongARM SA-1110 206-MHz microprocessor to run the Windows CE 3.0 operating system, and offers integrated wireless communications and GPS options.

Unveiled last December, MediaQ's MQ-1100/1132 platform controller family sets the standard for providing a rich user interface on next generation handheld devices that enable multimedia applications and data services delivered over the wireless Internet. The MQ-1132 integrates a 64-bit 2D graphics engine, direct LCD display interface, a USB Host and device controller, SPI and audio interfaces, and 256 KB of Embedded SRAM into a single low power chip. The product targets handheld systems that demand extended battery-life without compromising system performance.

"MediaQ's MQ-1132 was the perfect choice for our Toughbook handheld platform," said Rance Poehler, President of Panasonic Computer Solutions Company. "It delivers high performance with intelligent integration of the most popular peripherals, while still meeting our stringent system-level power budgets. We believe that MediaQ's ultra low power designs and high performance display technology with direct interface to our LCD panels is a significant enhancement to our Toughbook product line

"Panasonic's selection of our MQ-1132 reinforces the product line's position as the de-facto standard for true multimedia capability in next generation handheld devices," said Elie Antoun, CEO & president, MediaQ Inc. "MediaQ's expertise in display technology, intelligent peripheral integration, and low power designs satisfy Panasonic's desire to offer leading-edge solutions. We are delighted to be selected by Panasonic and look forward to expanding our relationship in the future."
