SANTA CLARA, CA—APRIL 28, 2008—NVIDIA, the world leader in visual computing technologies, today announced the recipients of the prestigious NVIDIA® Fellowship Program awards for the 2008-2009 academic year. In its 7th year, the NVIDIA Fellowship Program attracts an exclusive group of researchers and scientists from all over the world who are working to solve complex visual computing challenges. NVIDIA Chief Scientist, Dr. David Kirk, heads the committee which selects the award recipients.

“The NVIDIA Fellowship Program recognizes and supports excellence in visual computing research in universities worldwide, fostering communication and innovation between NVIDIA's R&D team and outstanding students and professors,” stated Dr. Kirk. “Selecting our recipients was an incredibly difficult task this year as we saw a record number of applications for the program. I am very pleased with the committee’s recommendations and look forward to working with these very bright and talented individuals.”

Congratulations to the 2008 Fellowship recipients: Jay Steele, Clemson University; Milos Hasan, Cornell University; Gregory Diamos, Georgia Institute of Technology; Kanupriya Gulati, Texas A&M University; Vasily Volkov, University of California, Berkeley; Shubhabrata Sengupta, University of California, Davis; Toshiya Hachisuka, University of California, San Diego; Adam O'Donovan, University of Maryland, College Park; Derek Juba, University of Maryland, College Park; and Michele Cash, University of Washington.

The Fellowship Program is open to applicants worldwide. Eligibility criteria includes completion of the first year of Ph.D. level studies and a major in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, System Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or a related area. In addition, the student must hold a current membership on an active research team. Recipients this year will receive $25,000 to further their research.

About Dr. David Kirk
David Kirk has been NVIDIA's Chief Scientist since 1997. His contribution includes leading NVIDIA graphics technology development for today’s most popular consumer entertainment platforms. In 2007, Dr. Kirk was elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) for his role in bringing high-performance graphics to personal computers. Previously, Dr. Kirk received the SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics Achievement Award for his role in bringing high-performance computer graphics systems to the mass market. Dr. Kirk is the inventor of 50 patents and patent applications relating to graphics design and has published more than 50 articles on graphics technology. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the California Institute of Technology.
