SANTA CLARA, CA—Aug. 10, 2009— NVIDIA Corporation today announced that sessions covering some of the most important trends in computing − including computer vision, advanced C for CUDA programming, computational finance, supercomputing clusters and advanced visualization − will be among the 130-plus hours of technical content at its GPU Technology Conference.

Registration is open for the conference, which will focus on the latest breakthroughs that developers, engineers and researchers are achieving through the use of the graphics processing unit (GPU). The event will be held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, Calif., from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 2009. Sponsors include Cooley Godward Kronish LLP, SUPERMICRO, Dell, Samsung, Adobe, ASUS, Acceleware, Citi, Silicon Valley Bank, Deloitte, Sutter Hill Ventures, Webcor and GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms.

“The breadth of topics covered at this conference demonstrates the expanding reach and power of the GPU,” said Bill Dally, chief scientist at NVDIA. “The depth of each topic is also impressive, as the speakers presenting are among the best in their fields, with extensive experience solving some of the world’s most important computing challenges.”

A few highlights include:

Supercomputing – a three-hour session featuring some of the world’s premier supercomputing experts, including: Dr. Wen-Mei W. Hwu, of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Dr. Satoshi Matsuoka, of the Global Scientific Information and Computing Center of Tokyo Institute of Technology and the technical leader of the TSUBAME supercomputer; and Dr. Jeff Vetter, of Georgia Institute of Technology and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Advanced Visualization – deep dives into advanced visualization across a variety of fields, including sessions on utilizing the GPU in ultra high-end 4K video servers, featuring Dr. Norihisa Suzuki, of Zaxel; real-time effects in film and video, featuring Gary Oberbrunner, VP of Engineering at GenArts; and mapping satellite imagery on the GPU with Teodor C. Hanchevici and James Lutes, of PCI Geomatics.

Computer Vision – in-depth talks featuring Dr. Horst Bischof, of the Institute for Computer Graphics and Vision at the Technical University of Graz, Austria; and sessions on advances in GPU-based image processing, computer vision and face detection with a range of global authorities.

Other topics announced include: 3D stereo, algorithms and numerical techniques, astronomy and astrophysics, computational fluid dynamics, computational imaging, databases and data mining, embedded computing, mobile computing, energy exploration, film, life sciences, machine learning and artificial intelligence, medical imaging and visualization, molecular dynamics, physical simulation, and programming languages and APIs.

The GPU Technology Conference comprises three parallel summits:

Emerging Companies Summit -- a unique event that provides start-ups that are basing their business around GPU computing with the opportunity to present their company to entrepreneurs and venture capitalists involved in the GPU computing ecosystem.

GPU Developer Summit – a series of technical presentations, tutorials and panels aimed at developers of consumer, professional and high performance computing applications looking to exploit more of the GPU’s parallel processing power using industry-standard languages such as C/C++ with CUDA extensions and Fortran as well as APIs such as Direct3D, DirectX Compute, OpenCL™ software and OpenGL.

NVIDIA Research Summit – an event designed by researchers and academics for researchers and academics. Sessions target those using or considering GPUs in science and engineering research to increase computational power and reduce time-to-discovery.
