AI RESEARCH RESIDENCY

The NVIDIA AI Research Residency Program is a 12-month program within NVIDIA Research that gives PhDs in AI-related fields — mathematics, physics, signal processing, statistics, neuroscience, and computer science — expertise in machine learning research.

The application process is currently closed.

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll be paired with an experienced researcher from NVIDIA to work on a joint research problem that’s of mutual interest. Over the 12 months, you’ll devise and investigate new methods, evaluate them, and disseminate your findings to the research community through publications at venues such as NIPS, ICLR, ICML, and CVPR. The program is designed to get you up to speed as quickly as possible, so you can pursue a career as a research scientist in machine learning.

While we expect residents to have a strong technical background, it doesn’t need to be in artificial intelligence. Experience in adjacent fields that provide a meaningful knowledge base relevant to machine learning qualifies.

Residents will be typically based at NVIDIA HQ in Santa Clara

  • Get up to speed in machine learning.
  • Read and learn about prior work.
  • With the help of your mentor, define your research project.
  • Follow through on your research project, including implementation and evaluation.
  • Write up your research results in the form of an academic paper and submit to a relevant conference.

What we'll need to see:

  • PhD candidacy in mathematics, physics, signal processing, statistics, neuroscience, or computer science or equivalent research experience in those fields..
  • Track record of research excellence with a strong publication record.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Coding experience in a programming language like Python, MATLAB, or C/C++.
  • Familiarity with a deep learning framework, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow is a plus.
  • Some research experience in machine learning is a plus.

Each proposal will be evaluated for:

  • Applicant quality
  • Research quality
  • Relevance to NVIDIA

Your AI Research Residency application must include:

  • CV/Resume. Please make sure to include details on your 1) publication track record, 2) coding experience and/or open source contributions, 3) machine learning experience (if any).
  • Personal and Research Statement (2 pages maximum). Please describe why you would like to participate, which research area you would like to get into, what your current research expertise is and how it fits with the NVIDIA AI Research Residency Program. If you have concrete research ideas, please include them.
  • Transcripts. Please include transcripts from your previous degrees.

Submission portal: It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all of these items are submitted prior to the deadline. We are using a new submission portal, in which the applicant manages their own application. The applicant must:

  • complete a profile - you can go back to the portal repeatedly until you submit the final application
  • complete your application input including all required documents in PDF format
  • submit the final application when all items are complete, and prior to the application deadline
