Research: Gang’s research aims to introduce the latest GPUs and machine learning techniques to help tackle challenges in big biomedical image analysis, and to develop an open platform (we term it AIM-BIG) to encourage wider applications generating impact. His project is to develop AIM-BIG and to use it to enhance the fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) analysis of the uptake of gold nanoparticles in cancer cells. This study has potential to fuel current revolutions in biological research, especially in drug delivery/development, diagnosis and therapies.

Bio: Gang is a third-year PhD candidate in the School of Engineering and Informatics at the University of Sussex working with Prof. Thomas Nowotny and Dr. David Li. His research interests include CMOS fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) or spectroscopy systems, GPU computing, FLIM imaging analysis, and machine learning.
