## Virtual Studio Best Practices

### Webcam

* Use a plain/neutral background.
* Center your face and keep eye-contact with the camera (try placing your script near the camera).
* If you stumble, it's ok. This happens during a live event, too. Just pause if needed and continue your talk.

---

### Setup

* Make sure your phone and computer are set to silent to prevent notifications
* Close all doors and windows to prevent outside noises and interference.

---

### Audio

* Use a high-quality, plug-in microphone (recommended: [Blue Yeti](https://www.amazon.com/Microphone-Recording-Streaming-Podcasting-Adjustable/dp/B00N1YPXW2/ref=asc_df_B00N1YPXW2/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309707619534&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15528131166766176461&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9032151&hvtargid=pla-361504918229&th=1), [Rode](https://www.amazon.com/Rode-NT-USB-Versatile-Studio-Quality-Microphone/dp/B00KQPGRRE/ref=asc_df_B00KQPGRRE/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241941804851&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12900684269963217613&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9032151&hvtargid=pla-361504914709&th=1), [Elgato](https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Wave-Microphone-Podcasting-Capacitive/dp/B088HHWC47/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8cmK2Jfl9wIVK0FIAB0EsQhsEAAYASAAEgLeJPD_BwE&hvadid=488103510899&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9032151&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=1291339096274728556&hvtargid=kwd-930852850751&hydadcr=27860_10743340&keywords=elgato%2Bstream%2Bmic&qid=1652744139&sr=8-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExOVFJTUlBTUpERE9HJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDIxNDEwV1lIRTVBTFNYV1cmZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDQxMDcwNTJMNVEyMUJTTDA3RUYmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl&th=1), [Shure](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=microphones+shure&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIusiL5pfl9wIVNB-tBh14-gzMEAAYASAAEgL16vD_BwE&hvadid=178463816611&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9032151&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=18061943204080014913&hvtargid=kwd-71407768&hydadcr=29181_10197853&tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_36gr6aq9ae_e), or [Razer](https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Seiren-Streaming-Microphone-Built/dp/B075HCLMYP/ref=asc_df_B075HCLMYP/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312146581665&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8485899498442626941&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9032151&hvtargid=pla-436254869938&th=1)) or use a quality Bluetooth or wireless headset.
* Be sure to speak clearly and at a slow pace. This will enable better captioning and allow your talk to reach a wider audience.

---

### Internet

* Ensure that VPN is turned off for the best connection.
* Use ethernet or high-speed Wi-Fi (50mbs+).
* Check your [internet speed](https://www.speedtest.net/). We recommended at least 100Mbps download and 8.0Mbps upload speed for HD quality.

---

### Lighting & Backdrop

* Have a consistent light source in front of your face.
* Use a light such as a desk lamp or ‘ring’ light—preferably something that allows you to adjust the brightness level.
* Have a clean, simple background.

---

### Wardrobe

* Wear solid, rich, or neutral colors.
* Wear a color that contrasts with your background.
