Classic PC games are remembered for their incredible stories, characters and gameplay, but dated visuals can make them tough for modern players to enjoy. NVIDIA RTX Remix changes that by using cutting-edge path tracing to completely reimagine timeless titles, letting longtime fans and a new generation experience era-defining games in stunning detail.
RTX Remix 1.6 is our newest update for the platform, giving modders new tools to make even better projects.
To showcase these additions, we’ve got three new releases for GeForce RTX and RTX Spark gamers: RTX Remix for Minecraft: Java Edition, a Portal with RTX update, and a Half-Life 2 RTX demo update.
Minecraft is one of the most-played games in the world, and now you can render Minecraft: Java Edition v1.21.1 through RTX Remix, transforming worlds with DLSS-accelerated path tracing.

The beta release includes a sample world from Blockworks, and a high resolution physically-based rendered materials resource pack from NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios. Players can use these samples to experience the stunning path-traced mod, and creators can use them as a starting point for building their own breathtaking, path-traced worlds.
Using NVIDIA RTX Dynamic Illumination, thousands of shadow casting lights can be rendered at any one time in the Minecraft RTX Remix mod, accurately and realistically illuminating and shadowing. And at the same time, NVIDIA RTX Global Illumination renders indirect, bounced light, allowing sunlight and moonlight entering caves to naturally bounce into the depths before falling off, and for light to bounce into and around buildings up to four times, naturally illuminating them, with the light inheriting any colors it comes into contact with, from stained glass or painted walls.

The majority of lighting interactions are reliant on resource packs, which add physically-based materials, bump mapping and extra geometric detail to blocks, allowing them to reflect and refract light, and to enhance the appearance of the path-traced world.

Path-traced lighting and upgraded blocks allow for on and off-screen reflections, reflections on bodies of water and Minecraft’s seas, and subtle reflected detail across worlds.
Path-traced volumetric lighting enables the rendering of realistic fog, the display of god rays beaming through upgraded block-based clouds, and light shafts through windows.
Under the water, light can be refracted, caustics can be rendered, and shadows gain extra depth and realism.
Via subsurface scattering, light penetrates translucent materials such as ice and other game elements, scattering internally in multiple directions and re-emerging at different points, making scenes even more spectacular.

The additional detail of upgraded resource packs combines with path-traced lighting to transform flatly-lit builds into architectural marvels, with layers of blocks standing apart, reveal the intricate detail of builders.

And the wonder of whimsical and magical builds is brought to life, enabling you to create scenes reminiscent of jaw-dropping moments in fantasy films, shows and comics.

With the open source beta release of RTX Remix for Minecraft: Java Edition, we look forward to seeing how modders and world builders expand its capabilities and integrate it into fan-favorite mods. And of course, we can’t wait to see your own creations using physically-based resource packs and RTX Remix’s path-traced lighting! Please share your creations with us via social media.
RTX Remix 1.6 introduces significant leaps in rendering quality, performance, and cross-platform flexibility across both the Remix Runtime and Toolkit. From DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering and Multi Frame Generation to native ARM support and agent-assisted workflows, version 1.6 equips modders with modern AI capabilities to tackle next-generation remasters.
DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering uses real-time AI to enrich the appearance of a rendered frame with lifelike lighting and materials. RTX Remix 1.6 introduces native support for the feature, enabling modders to further enhance their creations on a scene-by-scene basis, with the complete set of DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering tools, just like developers of triple-A games.
For example, Sparkles/Kim2091 enhanced their in-development Fallout 4 RTX project with DLSS 5. In the following comparison, the soldier’s helmet has better reflections and lighting response when DLSS 5 is enabled. Additionally, his neck has better shadowing and his clothes have greater depth and material detail.

Players can now use DLSS Multi Frame Generation at up to 6X, and the new DLSS Frame Generation Performance Mode (Preset C) beta to further accelerate frame rates. Enable via Alt+X > Developer Graphics Settings > General.
ComfyUI empowers modders to leverage AI assistance across custom workflows and asset creation. The version 2.0 integration makes asset creation seamless. It replaces legacy tools with a dedicated ComfyUI pipeline for generating textures and meshes. Additionally, finding workflows is easier thanks to clearer names, descriptions, and type filters, while per-output settings give modders precise control over whether generated assets replace or append to existing files.

RTX Remix 1.6 includes a long list of additional changes and enhancements, including alternative rendering options such as Sparse Rendering and Spatially Hashed Radiance Cache (SHaRC), and the addition of Shadow Terminator optimizations, reducing jagged self-shadowing artifacts on curved and low-polygon surfaces, improving fidelity. Check out the release notes for all of the details.
DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering, 6X Multi Frame Generation, and DLSS Frame Generation Performance Mode (Preset C) beta are now available in Portal with RTX and the Half-Life 2 RTX demo thanks to RTX Remix 1.6. And both are now playable on RTX Spark devices.
In both titles, press Alt+X, click "Developer Settings Menu", then expand "DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering" to activate it and adjust its settings. Additional DLSS options can be adjusted in the “General” dropdown.
Gamers can add RTX Remix 1.6 with DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering, and its other new options and features to existing mods by following the steps below, but please note that compatibility and quality may vary until modders release official updates:
If you’re a modder, you can download RTX Remix 1.6 via the NVIDIA app, or download RTXRemixThinInstaller@1.6.1.0.exe from our GitHub repository.
