Quake II RTX, our ray-traced remaster of Quake II is now available to download and play! Grab it from Steam, or directly from our website, for PC, Ubuntu, and SteamOS. And if you’re a developer, download the source from Github.

Everyone can sample the first three levels of the campaign, but if you own a copy of the original Quake II, point the Quake II RTX installer at the Quake II files, and we’ll automagically upgrade you. This will let you enjoy the complete campaign, play the campaign in online co-op, and compete online in PvP multiplayer. Need help installing? Head here.

Each single-player and multiplayer map has been enhanced with path-tracing, a super high-fidelity form of ray tracing. This enables lifelike lighting, reflections, shadows, and much much more, exemplifying the power of ray tracing, and demonstrating why AAA developers are working with us to enhance their blockbusters with the tech.

In addition, we’ve introduced improved textures, implemented tons of other tech , and added time of day and environment options that let you play at night, at any time of day, or with the original dark and moody look.
