Viettel Pioneers AI Research Using NVIDIA DGX A100

Major Vietnam Telco’s In-House AI Applications to Promote Digital Economic Development and Build a Digital Society

Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group is the first telecommunication company in Vietnam to deploy an NVIDIA DGX A100 system to power its in-house AI development efforts.

The company’s Viettel Cyber Center (VTCC) unit is using the system to research and develop technologies and products using AI and data analysis. Research projects include speech processing, natural language processing, optical character recognition, and a database of user profiles.

One ambitious project is the Viettel AI Open Platform for conducting advanced research and applying Al to products and services to create comprehensive solutions and ensure that everyone and every business in Vietnam can access Al.

“Our mission is to enable machines with the characteristics of human intelligence and insight in order to promote digital economic development and promote societal advancement,” said Nguyen Manh Quy, Director at Viettel Cyber Space Center. “We’re using NVIDIA DGX A100 to build more complex models with faster AI teaching times to solve challenging problems.”

With customers’ growing demands for AI-based products with more than 90 percent accuracy, VTCC must reply on more than just its team of AI experts – a high-performance computing system is indispensable.  “The problem is the increasingly vast amount of data that is beyond the capacity of our existing system. NVIDIA DGX A100 helps us to reduce effort, time and implementation costs while achieving optimal work results,” said Nguyen Manh Quy.”

Designed for All AI and Data Science Workloads

NVIDIA DGX A100 is designed to handle all AI and data science workloads from analytics to training to inference, and help build services across manufacturing, customer service, healthcare, education and many other industries. It sets a new bar for compute density, packing five petaflops of AI performance into a 6U form factor, replacing legacy compute infrastructure with a single, unified system.

DGX A100 will increase VTCC’s computing power, allowing it to test larger models with significantly more accuracy. It is ideal for training conversational AI and computer vision models, as well as other projects that require accelerated computing power and high-speed connectivity.

Computer vision and natural language processing are about 20 to 60 percent faster than before. In addition, VTCC can train speech recognition systems with more patterns for larger AI models, accelerating the model training process. The system also provides a larger capacity of GPU memory and faster computation.

Building a Powerful R&D Infrastructure

The NVIDIA DGX A100 deployed at VTCC uses the powerful NVIDIA InfiniBand networking architecture with advanced in-network Computing engines to enable highly efficient and high-performance I/O connectivity for its networking infrastructure.

Additionally, VTCC  is adopting NVIDIA platforms and software development kits such as NVIDIA Metropolis for smart cities, NVIDIA Jarvis for multimodal conversational AI services, NVIDIA Nemo for developing state-of-the-art conversational AI models and NVIDIA Clara for supercharging the next generation of medical devices and biomedical research.

“Viettel is scaling up its in-house R&D capabilities around AI to build products that benefit people and businesses in Vietnam. The power of NVIDIA DGX A100 will enable VTCC to create new revenue opportunities and be a global pioneer in the use of AI solutions in the telecommunications industry,” said Anish Pandey, industry vertical director for ASEAN at NVIDIA.
