Faster Data Speeds

NVIDIA converged accelerators include an integrated PCIe Gen4 switch. This enables data to travel between the GPU and DPU without flowing across the server PCIe bus. Even in systems with PCIe Gen3, communication occurs at the full PCIe Gen4 speed. This enables a new level of data center efficiency and security for GPU-accelerated workloads, including AI, data analytics, 5G telecommunications, and other edge applications.

Integrating a GPU, DPU, and PCIe switch into a single device creates a balanced architecture by design. In systems where multiple GPUs and DPUs are desired, a converged accelerator card avoids contention on the server’s PCIe bus, so the performance scales linearly with additional devices. In addition, a converged card provides much more predictable performance. Having these components on one physical card also improves space and energy efficiency. Converged cards significantly simplify deployment and ongoing maintenance, particularly when installing in volume servers at scale.

More Powerful Networking

With NVIDIA converged accelerators, enterprises can benefit from the networking capabilities of the DPU to build scalable infrastructure for modern applications. Traditionally, modern workloads and data center designs impose significant networking overhead on CPU cores. But the NVIDIA SmartNIC, which is a core component of the NVIDIA DPU, provides network security offload capabilities, including Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Internet Protocol Security (IPSec), reducing the load on the CPU. The SmartNIC can also inspect network traffic and block malicious activity, providing enhanced security. Additionally, with NVIDIA’s DPU technology, NVIDIA converged accelerators can handle virtual networking faster and more efficiently.

Enhanced Security

The convergence of NVIDIA’s GPU and DPU creates a more secure AI processing engine, where data generated at the edge can be sent across the network fully encrypted without traveling over the server PCIe bus, ensuring it’s protected end to end. The NVIDIA DOCA SDK makes it easy to create security and networking services for the BlueField-2 DPU, as well as leverage DPU hardware accelerators and CPU programmability for better application performance and security.

Accelerating Edge AI over 5G

NVIDIA AI-on-5G is made up of the hyperconverged NVIDIA EGX™ computing platform, the NVIDIA Aerial™ SDK for software-defined 5G virtual radio access networks (vRANs), and enterprise AI applications, including SDKs such as NVIDIA Isaac™ and NVIDIA Metropolis™. This solution can be deployed on premises and managed by enterprises and hyperscalers like Google Cloud, simplifying deployment of AI applications over 5G edge networks.

The BlueField-2 A100 brings together the power of the NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPU with the BlueField-2 DPU. A100 delivers unprecedented acceleration and flexibility to power the world’s highest-performing data centers. With Multi-Instance GPU (MIG), each A100 can be partitioned into as many as seven GPU instances, allowing right-sized GPU acceleration for optimal utilization and expanded access to every user and application.

The BlueField-2 A100 is targeted at data center AI training, data analytics, and 5G telecommunications workloads, which can benefit from the high-speed, guaranteed bandwidth communication between GPU and network for large, multi-node workloads.
