Mercury Computer Systems and NVIDIA Form Strategic Alliance to Address Life Sciences and Geosciences Markets
Combined Technologies To Provide Innovative, Cost-Effective 3D Imaging Solutions
CHELMSFORD, Mass.--November 18, 2004--Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRCY), announced today its alliance with NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) to develop and deliver innovative image processing solutions for the life sciences and geosciences markets. Mercury’s renowned expertise in image and digital signal processing applications and NVIDIA’s leadership in visual computing technology will be combined to create a comprehensive set of solutions to address the growing demands of these imaging applications.
Mercury is leveraging the tremendous performance provided by multiple NVIDIA Quadro® graphics processing units (GPUs) at a reasonable cost to solve the massive and ever-increasing data-intensive challenges present in medical imaging and volumetric visualization and exploration utilizing very large data sets. GPUs are exceptionally efficient at floating-point computation and are becoming increasingly useful for such applications.
“Mercury is breaking new ground in applying NVIDIA Quadro graphics technology to medical imaging,” said Jeff Brown, general manager, professional graphics at NVIDIA. “They have demonstrated increased cost-effectiveness in high-performance 3D imaging solutions by orders of magnitude. We’re pleased to help enable this competence for new and existing customers.”
Mercury and NVIDIA have developed and will be delivering a robust set of offerings based on the NVIDIA Quadro graphics processors, Mercury’s family of imaging software products, and new hardware platforms that leverage the full power of multiple GPUs for imaging applications. The complementary technologies are designed to provide advances in 3D image processing and visualization that reach beyond the current applications of interactive experience in the realm of life sciences, geosciences, biotechnology and simulation.
Mercury will demonstrate its new life sciences solutions, including the latest acceleration technology, scalable imaging servers, highly optimized software components, and turnkey medical workstation software, in booth #2775 at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), to be held November 28 to December 3 in Chicago, Illinois.
