Automotive Design Appearance Simulation

NOT RECORDED

Daisuke Ide
Honda R&D Co., Ltd.

At Honda, our aim is to utilize and evaluate the computer generated appearance in the same way as a physical model. For CG-based design, we need physically accurate results, not just artistic representations. To accomplish this, we developed rendering software solution called "TOPS". Initially, we render the environment and materials only by measuring data from real objects without manual tuning. Second, we deploy "Monte-Carlo Path Tracing" calculation by optimizing for the GPU to get interactive performance. Finally we are able to obtain "physically correct rendering based on measured data" with very high performance.
