Make Something Unreal Contest—Media
The ultimate mod contest has begun! Over a $1,000,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs between now and March 2004. Entries can be made in 13 categories, including "Best Mod," "Best Character," and "Best Real-Time Non-Interactive Movie."

A real-time non-interactive film is the convergence of game development, animation and filmmaking.

Pretty amazing stuff! All of the tools needed to build this and other compelling movies are already at your fingertips with the game Unreal Tournament 2003. The Unreal Engine provides a feature called Matinee, which allows you to build these kinds of movies inside the Unreal Editor.

Need a little more help than that? We've made learning how to make mods for UT2003 and UT2004 easy! The Mastering Unreal website (http://www.masteringunreal.com) contains over one-hundred hours of free downloadable Video Training Modules designed to educate artists and programmers how to make mods for UT2003 and UT2004. More Video Training Modules are being created every month!

The grand prize winner in the "Best Non-Interactive Movie" category will receive $30,000 (U.S.) and a computer loaded with Nvidia components (Nforce2 motherboard with Dolby Digital sound, GeForce FX graphics card) and top-of-the-line AMD Athlon processors. Overall there is $70,000 in cash and 5 computers (approximate total value $15,000) being awarded in the Best Real-Time Non Interactive Movie. This category reflects the resent artform of Machinima (see http://www.machinima.org)
