DirectX 12

Developers can now tap into the newest graphics API to bring powerful GPU graphics to their most innovative titles. GeForce graphics cards support advanced DirectX 12 (DX12) features, enabling powerful new visual effects and rendering techniques for more lifelike gaming.

CREATING NEW REALITIES WITH DX 12

GeForce has been the GPU of choice for key DirectX 12 demos from Microsoft since the API was announced at Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2014. Combining the world’s fastest GPU hardware with a high-quality graphics driver provided the perfect showcase for the next-generation features of Windows 10 and DX 12.

DX 12 and Windows Display Driver Model(WDDM) 2.0 drivers give gamers exceptional efficiency and performance. GeForce Game Ready drivers are incredibly efficient with DX 12, minimizing software overhead for lower CPU utilization, increased GPU utilization, and ultimately, higher performance.

NVIDIA worked with Microsoft for years to develop DX 12, with key hardware support being designed into all NVIDIA GPU architectures to maximize functionality and performance. DX 12 gives game developers unprecedented low-level access to hardware resources, letting them truly tailor their games to GeForce GPU architectures and take full advantage of their features.

DX 12 includes support for graphics features that will allow game developers to create incredible new visuals and gameplay.

Graphics features supported by DX12 include:

  • Volume Tiled Resources
  • Conservative Raster
  • Raster Order Views
  • Tiled Resources
  • Typed UAV Access
  • Bindless Textures
  • Asynchronous Compute

Microsoft DXR Partnership

DirectX 12 took a giant step forward with the addition of Microsoft's DirectX Raytracing (DXR) API. This is a natural extension of DX 12, fully integrating ray tracing into DirectX and making it a companion (rather than a replacement) to rasterization and compute. NVIDIA partners closely with Microsoft to enable full RTX support for applications that use DXR.
