NVIDIA Instant NeRF VR Contest

Use NVIDIA® Instant NeRF VR software to create a 3D scene for a chance to win an NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 3090 Ti GPU.*
Contest runs from January 31 to March 3, 2023.

Overview

NVIDIA Instant NeRF is a rendering tool that turns a set of static images into a realistic 3D scene. With the latest software update, it is now possible to navigate Instant NeRF in VR and step into the 3D creations. In this contest, we are looking for creators, developers, and enthusiasts to take a virtual dive into their NeRFs and share with us their experience for a chance to win an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU.

Below, you will find the submission guidelines, additional resources, FAQs, and terms and conditions in order to qualify. If you are curious to learn more about the new VR extension for Instant NeRF, check out the blog on the subject.

Submission Guidelines

Step 1

Set Up Instant NeRF VR

Visit the Instant NeRF GitHub for the code and setup instructions. On the page you will find hardware requirements, setup instructions, and even binaries for an even easier setup.

Step 2

Create and Play

Use the Instant NeRF software to assemble a scene, then screen capture a 15 second+ video of you interacting with that NeRF in VR.

If you don’t have access to VR, you can enter a .ingp file of a NeRF worthy of VR exploration!

Please refrain from using vulgar, profane, or controversial subjects, and do not include actual people.

Step 3

Submit and Share

Upload your captured scene to Twitter, tag @NVIDIAAIDev, and include #InstantNeRFVR in your post.

If you have a NeRF (.ingp) file instead of the screen capture, direct message @NVIDIAAIDev a screenshot and the cloud link to the file.

You can enter the contest up to five times to increase your chances of winning.

Our judges will decide which submission best shows the use of VR in Instant NeRF.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is NVIDIA Instant NeRF VR?

NVIDIA Instant NeRF is software that uses AI and neural radiance fields (NeRF) to approximate how light behaves in the real world, enabling users to reconstruct a 3D scene from a handful of images taken at different angles. Implementing VR to NeRFs allows users to immerse themselves into the 3D scene they just created.

NVIDIA Instant NeRF and the VR update is free for individuals from GitHub: https://github.com/NVlabs/instant-ngp.

  • Who can participate in the NVIDIA Instant NeRF VR Contest?

Legal residents of eligible countries can enter. This contest is intended to introduce the powerful capabilities of Instant NeRF to creators of all levels. No prior experience or knowledge is necessary. Even if you don’t have access to a VR headset or screen capture, you can still submit a NeRF that you think is VR  worthy for our judges to review.

  • How do I get started?

Get Instant NeRF running on your computer. Access the setup instructions for more information. If you need further help setting up the program, read this blog.

Once you have the program, take plenty of photographs of the scene/image you would like to render in Instant NeRF and start training the neural radiance field (NeRF). Once the scene is rendered, on the UI there is a button that allows you to transition to VR.

  • What do I need to include in my submission?

Your submission should include either A) your screen capture of you engaging with your scene in VR, at least 15 seconds in length, and uploaded to Twitter tagging @NVIDIAAIDev and including the hashtag #InstantNeRFVR; or B) the .ingp file linked from a cloud storage service the judges can access. That link should be sent by DM to @NVIDIAAIDev.

  • What does it take to win?

The judges will determine which submission provided the best VR experience. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully to qualify.

  • How do I find out if I won?

Our team will reach out to the winner via a direct message on Twitter. We will also announce the winner on the NVIDIA Twitter channel: @NVIDIAAIDev.

  • Where can I go for help, assistance, or clarification on the rules?
