NVIDIA Expands Family of GeForce2 Go Mobile GPUs

Santa Clara, CA—February 26, 2001—NVIDIA® Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) today introduced the NVIDIA GeForce2 Go™ 100 and 200 GPUs designed for the mainstream mobile market. Featuring a 45% reduction in package size for thin and light notebooks, the GeForce2 Go 100 and 200 mobile GPUs are designed to provide mainstream notebook computers with the 3D, 2D and multimedia performance previously available only on desktop PCs. Featuring the smallest package ever for a notebook PC graphics processor, GeForce2 Go solutions use less real estate than competing solutions with integrated memory. Utilizing dynamic software and hardware power management techniques, GeForce2Go 100 is also an extremely power efficient solution consuming as little as 0.5 watts.

According to Jon Peddie Associates, shipments grew 27.7% percent from 1999 to 200, growing the market to an incredible 30 million units large a CAGR of 19.3% from 1996 to 2001. JPA also noted that mobile PCs are expected to show more resilience in the next year – providing a platform for incredible market growth. JPA believes that mobile PCs are going to drive market growth for PC vendors.

The GeForce2 Go family now offers three GPUs–-the original GeForce2 Go (128-bit SDR solution); GeForce2 Go 100 (32-bit DDR solution); and the GeForce2 Go 200 (64-bit DDR solution). Based on the award-winning GeForce2 Go architecture, introduced in November 2000, GeForce2 Go 100 & 200 feature an extremely small GPU package. This new package paired with discrete memory, gives OEMs the flexibility to pack the graphics subsystem into the limited spaces - common in notebook motherboard designs.
The GeForce2 Go GPUs delivers unmatched performance for notebook systems. The hardware transform and lighting processor on the GeForce2 Go offloads computationally intense geometry calculations from the CPU and produces up to 17 million triangles per second. The GeForce2 Go 100/200 dual pixel pipeline renders up to 250/286 million pixels per second. And the Geforce2 Go delivers this industry-leading performance while running at only 1.575V, resulting in the lowest dynamic power consumption.
These two new mobile GPUs include the NVIDIA Shading Rasterizer™ (NSR) which provides per-pixel lighting and shading effects in a single pass and Digital Vibrance Control™ (DVC) for crisp, bright visuals. Mobile users will also have the broadest range of display options via NVIDIA's TwinView™ architecture, for displaying information on the notebook screen and a second screen such as a desktop monitor, conference room projector or television.
