SANTA CLARA, CA — FEBRUARY 22, 2002— NVIDIA® Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) announced today that its proprietary processors designed for Microsoft® Xbox™ has been named the “Best Gaming Chip Set of 2001” by Cahners In-Stat/MDR, publishers of the Microprocessor Report. The Xbox processors feature the dual-processing architecture of NVIDIA’s Xbox Graphics Processing Unit (XGPU) and Xbox Media Communications Processor (MCPX) to power the video game system’s standout graphics, audio and networking capabilities. The award, chosen by the analyst team of the Microprocessor Report, is one of the first presented in the fourth annual Analyst’s Choice Awards honoring the best in microprocessor technology unveiled in 2001.

Microsoft’s Xbox features a powerful combination of NVIDIA’s XGPU graphics processor and the MCPX media processor. The first processor, the XGPU, a fully programmable 3D processor, contains more than 60 million transistors. This awesome amount of computing horsepower is dedicated to one goal—create stunning, never-before-seen imagery. The second processor, the MCPX, is based on two powerful digital signal processors (DSPs) with 4 billion operations per second dedicated to 3D audio and network processing. The MCPX performs the processing for broadband networking functions, high-speed peripherals, and is the most sophisticated audio processor ever built.
