2008 Programs

High Impact Grant Program
From May 9 – June 20, organizations throughout the world have an opportunity to receive a $50,000 grant from the NVIDIA Foundation, if they can demonstrate that the grant will be used to make a transformative impact on the lives of the people they serve. Outside proposals will not be considered for this program, employee referrals only. If you qualify, learn more about the program.

Worldwide Food Drive
In the summer of 2008, the Foundation partnered with NVIDIA employees to help tackle the growing hunger crisis. Our US and international field offices secured significant funding for their local food banks and our Santa Clara employees partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank to fund a weekend food program for 300 children for the next three years.

Project Inspire 2008 – Santa Clara
In 2008 we gathered 1,000 NVIDIA employees, their families and local high students to transform William Overfelt High School in East San Jose, CA. We painted murals, built a multimedia studio and volleyball court, along with several other projects that improved the visual impact and curriculum of the school. Learn more.

Other Programs
Our employees are engaged in programs too numerous to list, here are a few highlights:

• Employees in our 11 US field offices provide backpacks for children and make each holiday season special for those in need.
• Employees at our Würselen, Germany office pay double for their lunch one day per week, and the local cleaning person who makes the meal uses the extra money to cook dinner for the residents of the homeless shelter that he also cleans.
• All three of our India offices are actively engaged with local schools, providing school supplies, money for school improvements, and tutoring to children in K – 12 grades.

Project Inspire: 500 NVIDIANs and Their Families Revitalize a Silicon Valley School

On December 15, 500 members of the NVIDIA community provided much needed updates to the East Palo Alto Charter School. Community partner Rebuilding Together Peninsula organized the volunteers (which included parents and teachers at the school), and together the team made an incredible impact, including:

Outside of the school completely repainted (225 gallons of paint used)

Seventy five dull Plexiglas windows replaced

Four beautiful and educational murals painted throughout school grounds

Crafted an outdoor classroom and garden in which students will learn about how to grow and prepare nutritious meals

A new volleyball court

Brand new books for each child and school supplies for each classroom

Rebuilding Together estimates over 3,000 hours were volunteered in one day, and that the school would have spent $600,000 on contract labor if it had to pay for it.

NVIDIA Hyderabad Employees Partner with Local School

NVIDIA’s Hyderabad employees are taking an active role in helping local children get the support they need to be successful in school. Over the past four years, Hyderabad has supported the GPS Ambedkar primary school by providing in-class teaching, conducting exams and working actively with parents to keep their children enrolled in the school. The team has also partnered with Naandi Foundation on a meal program, as well as donated a portion of their salaries to support other school initiatives. This August, the Hyderabad office presented the children with shoes, book bags and uniforms to help them start off the school year successfully. NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang recently recognized employees’ efforts by making a donation to upgrade the school's infrastructure. NVIDIA’s future involvement includes creating a model school adoption program that can be implemented in other countries where NVIDIA has offices.

Family Giving Tree

Family Giving Tree provides backpacks to students in the Santa Clara school system who can't afford the basic school supplies they need to excel in the classroom. This year our employees donated more than 8,300 backpacks to underprivileged children.
