Project Inspire 2006
Project Inspire: Second Harvest Food Bank
NVIDIA has been involved with Second Harvest Food Bank
since 1998. During the 2006 holiday season, NVIDIA co-founders Jen-Hsun Huang and Chris Malachowsky co-chaired the Food Bank's holiday food and funds drive. Jen-Hsun reached out to several Silicon Valley CEOs to raise funds in the fight against hunger and Chris Malachowsky challenged NVIDIA's business partners and top Second Harvest donors to increase donations from last year. The co-chairs generous spirit sparked a tremendous amount of giving within NVIDIA – employees donated over $700,000, most of it during a very exciting Segway race during which members of NVIDIA’s executive staff competed against each other in a race to see who would finish first. Employees bet to see who would win the race and purchased raffle tickets to win their own Segway!
The 2006 food drive raised a record $5.7 million in Silicon Valley, marking the first time that Second Harvest broke the $4 million mark in fundraising since 2000. Second Harvest CEO Chip Huggins noted: "The enthusiasm, passion, and creativity that the NVIDIA community brought to this year's effort helped propel us to a new level of success.”
