The final result was film footage that perfectly matches the true look of a beautiful real-world church, down to the smallest details. This new technology gives filmmakers the ability to go where no camera is allowed to go.

Rainmaker, an animation, visual effects, and digital post-production company, was selected by Sony Pictures to produce a key scene in the hit movie The Da Vinci Code. The sequence, which takes place in the famed Saint Sulpice Church in Paris, was integral to the film's story line. However, producer Ron Howard and his film crew were denied access to the church. The only course of action for the team was to film the actors on a ‘green screen' stage and rely on Rainmaker to reconstruct the church through CG (computer graphics) and generate final images that would seamlessly blend footage of the actors with the virtual church.

The Rainmaker team spent a week in Paris taking high-resolution still photos of the church interior. Using NVIDIA technology, Rainmaker then created a virtual set of Saint Sulpice through the processes of matchmoving, image projection, final composite, and grading. Rainmaker was able to create stunning, historically-accurate images very quickly by leveraging the NVIDIA GPU (graphics processor unit) as a floating point math processor.
